The long history of  Department of Technical Economics of Jilin University can be traced back to 1955 when the major of Engineering and Economics was established in the former Jilin University of Technology. In 1985, it was approved by the Ministry of Education to set up the first undergraduate major of technical economics in China; in 1986, approved by the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council to grant master's degree and doctor's degree in the major (asone of the first twoinstitutions); in 1995, accredited as a key major by the former Ministry of Machine-Building Industry; and in 2008, approved by the Ministry of Education to be a key (fostered) major at thenational level. Our department is the first in China to set up the major of technical economics and to be eligible to grant doctor's and master's degrees. At present,this discipline is unique in China withits complete training system from undergraduate to postdoctoral. Itsdistinct research system andteam in entrepreneurship management, innovation management and science and technology policy havewon thedepartmentgreat reputation and influence in the industry.

The Department of Technical Economics has a first-class teaching and research team with balanced expertise and age structure,great educational background and broad global vision. There are currently 19 teachers, including 11 professors, 6 associate professors, 2 lecturers and 9 doctoraltutors. Among the teachers, 18 have doctor’s degrees and 17 have experience in overseas study and research. Professor Cai Li, the academic leader, has been awarded by the National Outstanding Youth Fund and selected into the “One Hundred-One Thousand-Ten Thousand Talent” Project. The teachers of our department have undertaken a number of national natural science foundation projects/youth projects, national social science foundation projects, provincial and ministerial scientific research projects and corporate consulting projects.They are also authors ofmany SSCI and SCI papers, and achieve fruitful results in high-level research.
