overseas Studying Experience Sharing by graduate students of the SCHOOL OF MANAGEMENT

To improve the quality of multi-level talent training, strengthen the building of the platform to enhance academic competence of graduate students of the School and promote the campaign on the theme of “staying true to our founding mission”, the Office of Graduate Education and Management of the School of Management organized a sharing meeting at B515 Room of the Yifu Building on the afternoon of September 19, 2019. 4 outstanding doctoral candidates were invited to the “Overseas Studying (in Britain and the United States) Experience Sharing Meeting” to share their overseas experience, including preparation before studying abroad, overseas study (language, study and life) and plans after returning to China. The meeting attracted nearly 50 students who were interested in this topic.

Zhang Huichuan, doctoral candidate in Management Science and Engineering, was the first to share his experience in applying for overseas study from the China Scholarship Council. In terms of preparation, he introduced basic information about Britain, how to apply from the China Scholarship Council and other projects and what to prepare before going abroad. He shared with the audience about how to adapt to local life and solve problems. Zhang also explained in details on preparing for returning, related procedures and how to get overseas returnee certificates.

Xing Yunfei, doctoral candidate in Library and Information Science and Archives Management, shared her experience abroad. She recommended several ways to learn languages, such as attending academic seminars and lectures, reading English literatures, watching English movies or TED and talking to people. She also introduced her overseas study, campus environment, her entertainment and social life.

Wang Duo, doctoral candidate in Library and Information Science and Archives Management, shared his stories and experience in Stanford University. He told the audience about how to solve difficulties in a new environment and what attitude to take towards study. He encouraged the audience to step out of their comfort zone, meet challenges and make new friends to broaden their horizons.

Wang Long, doctoral candidate in Business Administration, exchanged with the audience about his overseas experience. He introduced ways to improve languages, promote academic innovation and gather data and materials. He also explained in details overseas life and cultural differences, shared his stories in traveling, friend-making and how to submit certificates, procedures and academic achievements.

The audience listened with close attention and learned a lot from the sharing. They have deepened their understanding on overseas studying through exchanging with the four speakers. The meeting was a complete success.
